Circumferential Torsoplasty

he scanner is able to generate a “storybook” for you to document your postoperative progress and recreate your image on demand (Figure 6).

When considering torsoplasty surgery, please request a scan prior to your doctor’s preoperative visit.

Figure 6

Following gastric bypass surgery and massive weight loss, many patients acquire a large circumferential roll of loose skin and deflated fat around their lower abdomen and hips. This extra tissue is burdensome, often causes groin rashes, and makes buying clothes very difficult.

Figure 1

The circumferential torsoplasty effectively removes this “tire” of tissue so that your lifestyle immediately improves – rashes disappear and smaller-sized clothing fits.

Figure 2

This remarkable surgery removes the loose skin and fat that hangs down as an apron (often covering the genitals), tightens and tones the abdominal wall, and lifts the buttocks and hips to rejuvenate the lower body and waist.

Figure 3

Remarkable results can be achieved with this surgical procedure. It has been my experience that postoperative scars usually heal well and can sometimes incorporate and improve the scars from previous gastric bypass surgery (Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3, Figure 4).

We have recently incorporated a white light scanner to aid with torsoplasty surgery. Digital scans have the advantage of accurately recording and archiving pre-and post-operative information without being dependent on a photographer’s skill. The scan has the ability to accurately measure the amount of tissue to be removed and predict the post-operative result (Figure 5, Table I).
